Pastor Ron spent the first 39 years of his life running away from Jesus Christ. Finally, on February 17, 1991, while running away from home because of the shame of admitting his sins to his wife and 2 children (Ronnie & Terry), he fell to his knees on a public street in Upland, California. From that day forward, his life has never been the same!

Ron grew up in Southern California in a middle-class home in the late ’60s and early ’70s, when the hippie culture was booming. While in college, Ron met his wife, Paula. They were married on September 16, 1972. With the added responsibility of marriage and his first son on the way, Ron found his first full-time job selling cars and quickly became successful. This led to a 21-year career in the automobile industry, which culminated in Ron’s partial ownership of a Nissan dealership in Ontario, California.

In 1988, Ron’s grandmother and mother, both believers, passed away. That was followed by the loss of his business as a result of gambling. After losing his fortune, Ron’s family was evicted from their home. This was during his youngest son’s senior year in high school. Finally, without hope, Ron tried to run away. God is so gracious; Ron was only able to get a block away when the power of the Holy Spirit dropped him to the ground. He didn’t know anything about Jesus, except that his wife, who had been praying for him for 13 years, found joy during the years Ron made her life a living hell. He cried out for the Jesus Paula knew! That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with God!

Calvary Chapel of San Antonio began when God spoke to Ron’s heart on March 4, 1994, saying, “Begin to pray for the people of San Antonio.” Although he and Paula had never been to Texas, never wanted to go to Texas, and knew no one in Texas, God’s call was unmistakable. After graduating from Calvary Chapel Bible College, Ron, Paula, and their 14-year old dog, Moto, headed for Texas in a truck that cost $1. The first home Bible study took place on May 31, 1995.

Our ministry has now expanded in ways which can only be described as miraculous. South Texas is responding to simple, verse-by-verse Bible teaching by falling more in love with Jesus every day!

Pastor Ken gave his life to Jesus Christ on November 30th, 1997 in San Diego, California at Horizon Christian Fellowship. After many years of hardship and heartbreak, Ken realized that every attempt to fill his hurting heart failed because it was missing the love of Jesus. On that late November evening, God gave Ken a new heart filled with God’s love! Since then every day is lived in gratitude for saving him from hopelessness. Not only did God breathe life into Ken, but May (his girlfriend at the time) gave her heart to Jesus one month later! Over the next few months, God transformed their once miserable relationship, into a Christ-centered engagement. Then in April of 2000, God joined Ken and May together in marriage.

In February of 2006, God moved Ken, his loving wife May, and their two wonderful kids (Kaleb and Nia) from California to San Antonio, Texas. In 2007, they were blessed with another beautiful child, Faith Evangeline (a.k.a. Faithee). In 2012, they were blessed with yet another child, Malani Joy.

On Monday nights, you can stop by the Men’s Bible Study, which Pastor Ken has been teaching since 2008.

Pastor Juan Ortiz came to the Lord in 2001. He started teaching at the school in 2006. Juan is now the missions pastor, and he also plans the Joy of Jesus Outreaches. Pastor Juan's wife, Lachelle, serves along his side, and they have two adult children, Jaqui and Johnny.

Pastor Alain came to know the Lord in 1996 at a Harvest Crusade in San Diego. Prior to moving to San Antonio, Alain and his wife Jocelyn served at Calvary Chapel of San Diego doing Worship and Children’s Ministry. Not knowing what God had planned for them, He and his family moved to San Antonio in 2005. A year later, the Lord made it clear that Alain was to be the next Worship Leader of CCSA. In 2007, he left a career of 9 years in Broadcast Radio to teach 3rd grade at the Church Academy. He and his wife have four children, Matthew, Ashley, Jonathan, and Timothy.

In 1989 Will began his relationship with his wife Natasha. In 1991 they had their first child while Will was still attending high school. Will went on to pursue an education but in 1992 dropped out of college. Due to his lifestyle of sin Will’s life continued on a downward spiral causing many years of pain for his wife and kids to the point his marriage was on the brink of a divorce. It was at that time, in July of 1999, Will was finally willing to listen to the voice of God.

Will began to do things God’s way and in 2000 God called him to ministry. He has been serving here at CCSA ever since and is currently Principal of Calvary Chapel Christian Academy.

Will and Natasha now have four children and a tremendous amount of joy in their lives as they continue to do things God’s way as a family. Each of their children graduated from Calvary Chapel Christian Academy.

Alfredo was born and raised in San Diego, California and is the oldest of four kids. He came to know the Lord Jesus in April 2001 while living there. After serving in the junior high ministry in Calvary Chapel San Diego, he made his way eastward to Texas. Here at Calvary Chapel San Antonio, he continued to have a heart for the kids and youth, serving in the junior high ministry from 2006-2016. Alfredo also had a career in occupational therapy working in Home Health with the pediatric population before the Lord called him to full-time ministry. In 2015, he was ordained as a pastor and later joined the CCSA staff in 2017. Since that time, he has also been full-time at the academy. Alfredo teaches the junior high class, and Latin to the 1st and 6th grades. His hobbies include spending time with his family and studying the Word of God. Alfredo and his beautiful wife, Sundra, are proud parents of seven children: Gian, Victoria, Kacy, Veronica, Namine, Kieran, and Alfredo Paul; and have two grandchildren: Titus and Alizae. His favorite pro sports teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, the San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Peter was born in India and immigrated to New York in 1982. He surrendered his life to Jesus on November 1996 in Debrecen, Hungary, where he studied medicine. In medical school he met his lovely future wife Sheeba, also a medical student and they were married in 2003. In 2005, God moved Peter and Sheeba to San Antonio for residency training and they decided to stay. While they practiced medicine, they began attending CCSA in 2006 and realized there was an emptiness in chasing after the things of this world. God fulfilled their desire by calling them to serve Him through medicine. In 2013, Malta Medical was started with Peter as the Medical director and Sheeba serving alongside him. God has been faithful in sustaining this ministry ever since. They have two children, Rebekah and Abigail, who attend Calvary Chapel Christian Academy and serve faithfully in the church.

Pastor Matt surrendered his life to Jesus when he was 18 years old during spring break of his freshman year of college in March 1997. He met his fabulous wife, Lauren, while serving as an Air Force Technical Training Instructor at Goodfellow AFB, in San Angelo, TX. After separating from the Air Force, Matt spent 13 years climbing the corporate ladder in a demanding career as a high-tech project manager where he traveled away from his family 75% of the time. The Lord used that time to teach him that money and success aren’t everything, that his family and his relationship with Jesus are far greater, before eventually calling Matt to open a senior home care business. Through the business, the Lord planted the desire in Matt to minister to seniors and those who are being left behind and alone and unable to get to church. He gave Matt a sense of urgency that His purpose in our world is about bringing the dead to life in a restored relationship with Jesus. Matt ultimately accepted the call into pastoral ministry in 2020. Pastor Matt and his wife, Lauren, lead the Usher Ministry alongside their daughter, Finleigh, and son, Ari.

Pastor Ed is married to Tisha who serves along side him at Calvary. She was saved in Long Beach, California in 1978 as a young teenager. On their first date in January 1981, she asked Ed to go to church with her the next morning (Sunday). Ed said NO. What followed for the next 30 years was Ed living in the world, and living in a ‘world of trouble’. Consumed by his sin and broken, Ed FINALLY surrendered to Jesus in 2012. After so many years of Jesus saving him from disaster and worse, Ed began to grow spiritually in his new life in Christ. In the first year, he began to serve at Calvary Chapel of San Antonio in the Technology (website, app) and Graphics ministries which he now leads. Years later Ed began serving in the Spanish Ministry and now leads this ministry with a Sunday Spanish Service and a monthly Spanish Prayer and Worship meeting.
