Bible Counseling Ministry

Ministry Leader : Pastor Louie

The Bible Counseling Ministry is for those called to provide Biblical counseling to those in need of it at the Joy of Jesus Outreach. Those who desire to be a part of this ministry should have a solid knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, especially those that point to the person of Jesus Christ and our need for salvation through him. They should also be very comfortable speaking with people from all walks of life.

Bicycle Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Victor Perez

The Bicycle Ministry is for those who desire to repair, clean, and distribute free bicycles at the Joy of Jesus Outreach. This ministry runs year-round with the collection of donated bicycles and the subsequent repair and cleaning of the bicycles in anticipation of the day of the outreach. Bicycles are repaired and cleaned at the home of Victor Perez. Just prior to the outreach, bicycles are loaded in trucks and trailers for transport to Travis Park. The day of the outreach they are delivered to the park, unloaded, and then distributed via a raffle.

Blanket Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: 

The Blanket Ministry involves the collection of new or gently used blankets and the distribution of those blankets at the Joy of Jesus Outreach. Used blankets need to be washed and folded prior to distribution.

Canopy Set-up Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Larry Bushe

The Canopy Ministry responsible for setting up and dismantling the 20-foot canopy used to cover the food preparation area at Joy of Jesus. The canopy is delivered to Travis Park early the morning of the event and is then assembled, a process which takes about 20 minutes. The canopy is assembled in a location selected by the Food Ministry. Following the close of the event, the canopy is disassembled for transport back to the church warehouse.

Cartoonist Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Silas Slagle

The Cartoonist Ministry is for those who desire to create instant caricatures of people attending the Joy of Jesus Outreach. Members of this ministry should be skilled at capturing the essence of a person’s look and character and then quickly creating a cartoon version of the individual. Members also need to provide their own drawing materials.

Children’s Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Stephanie Marquez

The Children’s Ministry is for those who have a heart for supervising children in a fun and entertaining manner and teaching them about Jesus. Those called to this ministry help create activities for children who attend Joy of Jesus. The day of the outreach, members of the Children’s Ministry set up a secure area for the children’s activities and then supervise the various games and events throughout the outreach. When the event is over, members of the ministry disassemble the children’s area for transport back to the warehouse.

Chiropractic Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: 

The Chiropractic Ministry is for those who are licensed in chiropractic care and who desire to provide relief to those who seek the benefits of it. Members of this ministry must supply their own equipment with which to provide the care.

Cleaning Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Pastor Matthew M.

The Cleaning Ministry is for those who have a heart for keeping the area free of litter. Those in this ministry are provided with trash bags and pick-up sticks and roam the grounds of Travis Park picking up and disposing of any trash they come across. While walking around, those in this ministry will have ample opportunity to share Jesus with people attending the event. Therefore, those in this ministry should be comfortable sharing their testimony as well as sharing Bible verses about Jesus and our need for salvation.

Clothing Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Erica Giner

The Clothing Ministry is for those who desire to sort and distribute free articles of clothing at the Joy of Jesus Outreach. This ministry runs year-round with the collection of new and gently used clothes (only NEW underwear) and the subsequent sorting, folding, and distributing of the clothes on the day of the outreach. Most of the work in this ministry is conducted prior to the outreach. The day of the outreach, clothes are loaded in trucks and trailers for transport to Travis Park. They are then unloaded and set up on tables in three areas—men’s, women’s, and children’s—according to size. Following the event, any remaining clothing is boxed up and transported back to the warehouse.

Clown Ministry

Ministry Leader: Traci Noojin

The Clown Ministry is for those who desire to spread the message of Christ in an extraordinarily entertaining way. Those in the Clown Ministry will receive training in how to be a clown and assistance in putting together a costume and choosing a clown name. During the outreach, clowns will roam Travis Park entertaining guests. This ministry requires people who enjoy interacting with others, who enjoy sharing Jesus, and who don’t take themselves too seriously.

Drama Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Shiela Fry

The Drama Ministry is for those who desire to spread the message of Christ through dramatic presentations. Those in the Drama Ministry will need to commit to a brief rehearsal schedule prior to the day of the outreach. Participants do not need prior acting experience, but should be comfortable with the idea of performing before large crowds.

Face Painting Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Marsha Adlesich

The Face Painting Ministry is for those who desire to use face painting as a means to one-on-one sharing of the Gospel message. While artistic experience is a plus, those eager to help will be given some training in order to provide a quality result for those—usually children—who want artwork painted on their face.

Flyer Distribution Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Aaron Guajardo

The Flyer Distribution Ministry is for those who desire to spread the message of Christ in a very personal, one-on-one way while laying a positive foundation for the outreach. Those in the Flyer Distribution Ministry will spend time during the Saturdays prior to the event handing out flyers with information on the Joy of Jesus outreach. This will create opportunities to share Jesus with people in downtown San Antonio. Those interested in this ministry should be comfortable interacting with strangers on an individual basis.

Food Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Rudy and Blanca Perez

The Food Ministry is for those who desire to minister to the people at the Joy of Jesus by helping with the cooking and serving of fresh-grilled hamburgers with all the fixings as well as the distribution of chips, condiments, drinks, and desserts. All those distributing food at any level must have a hair cover (either a hairnet or a hat). All servants in the Food Ministry must come equipped with a smile and welcoming personality.

Haircut Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Derrick Taylor

The Haircut Ministry offers professional hair services (at no cost, of course!) including washes, trims, and full cuts and styling. Hair cutters should be licensed. Those with experience cutting hair but who are not licensed need to talk first to the ministry leader before signing up. All hair cutters need to provide their own tools.

Henna Tattoo Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: 

The Henna Tattoo Ministry provides temporary tattoos for those who desire one. This is another opportunity for one-on-one ministry. Those interested must have prior experience applying henna tattoos. Limited training MAY be available. Those in this ministry need to provide their own tools.

Hot Coffee Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Nicole Moreno

The Hot Coffee Ministry has two assignments: Make coffee for those people setting up the event, and keep the coffee flowing during the event. Servants in this ministry need to know how to make a good sup of coffee!

Makeover Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Lachelle Ortiz

The Makeover Ministry is designed to offer complete facial makeup for women during the outreach. Those in this ministry do not need to have any certification or license of any kind; however, they should have a high degree of expertise in applying makeup on other people.

Massage Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Connie Scharsch

The massage ministry offers full or partial massages to any who desire it. Although servants in this ministry do not need to be licensed to be a part of the ministry, they must be experienced in giving massages. Servants should also bring their own equipment.

Medical Clinic Ministry

Ministry Leader: Dr. Pastor Peter

The Medical Clinic Ministry provides free routine check-ups for those at the outreach as well as any necessary first aid. Flu shots, when available, will also be administered to those who request one. Servants must be licensed doctors, PAs, nurses, or EMTs. 

Nails Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Crystal Mendez

The nails ministry offers manicures and nail care during the outreach. Although no license is required, servants in this ministry must be able to provide quality manicures and nail care.

Parking Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Donald Wynn

The Parking Ministry arrives early the morning of the ministry to guide servants into the designated parking areas. They also provide shuttle service to and from the event throughout the day. Servants in this ministry work in shifts from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pet Paws Paradise Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Sharon and Dewey Barber

The Pet Paws Ministry collects pet-care goods prior to the day of the outreach. This includes food, treats, collars, leashes, brushes, toys, etc. The day of the event, servants in this ministry will distribute pet supplies to those who desire them until supplies run out. Preference should be given to those who have pets with them.

Relief Team Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Pastor Matthew M.

The Relief Team Ministry is just what it sounds like—providing relief to those in other ministries so they can eat, get a drink, or use the port-a-potty. In some instances, it will be actually talking someone’s place in a ministry tent. In other instances, it might be getting water or food for someone who can’t leave their tent. Servants in this ministry should be able to handle a variety of assignments with ease.

Reading Glasses Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Marilyn Pollard

The Reading Glasses Ministry collects gently used or new reading glasses from the body prior to the day of the event. Glasses are then sorted by magnification, and on the day of the event, they are distributed to those who need reading glasses. Servants in this ministry should be prepared to bring materials to clean eyeglasses on request. 

Security Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Joel Moreno

The Security Ministry is the eyes and ears of Joy of Jesus. Servants in this ministry walk the grounds throughout the event, engaging visitors in Christ-centered conversation, freely sharing the Gospel, but always watching and listening for any activity that could be deemed a security risk. Although experience in security is a plus, it is not required. Although all servants are welcome in this ministry, those of intimidating size or stature are especially welcome.

Set-Up/ Tear-Down Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Brandon Caldwell

The Set-Up/Tear-Down Ministry is responsible for ensuring that Calvary Chapel of San Antonio is ready for Joy of Jesus. Prior to the outreach, this means securing all necessary pop-up canopies, tables, chairs, and other necessary equipment. The day of the outreach, servants in this ministry will assist in transporting all the equipment to Travis Park and then setting up the grounds. At the end of the outreach, this ministry will dismantle everything they set up in the morning and transport it back to the church or the warehouse. Those with pick-up trucks or trailers (or both) are especially helpful to this ministry.

Sewing Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Celeste Elder

The Sewing Ministry does its work primarily before the day of the outreach. Servants in this ministry craft hand-made pillows for distribution at the event. Then, the day of the outreach, they distribute the pillows to those who desire one.

Sound Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Rhoda Pickens

The Sound Ministry is responsible for transporting the required sound equipment to and from Travis Park; setting up the equipment; sound testing the equipment; then running the sound during the worship team’s presentations and whenever a public address system in needed.

Spanish Bible Counseling Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Pastor Ed.

The Spanish Bible Counseling Ministry is charged with distributing Spanish-language Bibles to those who need them and sharing the Gospel and providing Biblical counseling in Spanish. Spanish fluency is a must.

Street Witnessing Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Aaron Guajardo

The Street Witnessing Ministry meets on Saturdays throughout the year to share Jesus in the downtown San Antonio area. The day of the Joy of Jesus Outreach, the team simply shares the message of Christ throughout the event. No experience is necessary—just a willing heart.

Toiletries Ministry

Special requirements: NO

Ministry Leader: Amy Hayek

The Toiletries Ministry collects NEW items such as soap, toothpaste, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes, hair brushes, etc. throughout the year, prior to the outreach. Materials are sorted and packaged, and the day of the event they are distributed to anyone who needs these essential products.

Transportation Ministry

Special requirements: YES

Ministry Leader: Donald Wynn

The Transportation Ministry coordinates and provides rides to and from the Joy of Jesus event for those in the body who have no transportation. Servants in this ministry must have functioning transportation and a valid driver’s license.
